Psalms 13:2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Psalms 55:1-2 1 Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; 2 hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught
How many of us today are troubled with our thoughts ?
I believe many people are wrestling with thoughts that are troubling them and making them to be worried
Thoughts that tell you - you are not going to make it Thoughts that tell you - you will not be healed Thoughts that tell you you are going to fail and not pass Thoughts that tell you you will not be able to pay your bills Thoughts that you will never rise up in your life Thoughts that you are always going to be poor Thoughts that you are never going to get married Thoughts that God does not love you or even care for you
Just because you are sick or in trouble does not mean God does not love you
Just because your are poor or do not have money does not mean God does not love you
God has NOT TIED His LOVE to the things of the world But He has tied His love to Jesus Christ.
Many believers are prisoners to their thoughts which are disturbing them from living a victorious Christian life
In a wrestling match, you have to pin your opponent down in order to win..
In our minds , our thoughts have pinned us down and we have become a prisoner to our thoughts. It appears that our thoughts have overpowered us !
Our Mind
Our mind is the battlefield where the devil fights us Our mind is the CPU in a computer where all the data is processed
Once the CPU accepts the data, then it processes the data and programs etc are made.
Our thought life is what makes us the people we are
Proverbs 23:7 "As a man thinks within himself, so he is"
The thoughts you allow to dominate your mind and you dwell on them will create your image, behavior, attitude & Destiny.
What kind of thoughts do you dwell on daily. Thoughts of failures, fears, impurity
Before salvation
The devil builds stronghold in our minds in order to control our life the way he wants.
These strongholds are thoughts that have been pushed into our minds until they become a part of our life
Before becoming a Christian our minds were bound by sin and blinded by Satan. Our minds were depraved, darkened, and distant from the things of God.
When we came to Christ we received a new heart, a new spirit, a new nature and a new song in our hearts and on our lips,
2 Corinth 5:17 "If any one is in Christ he is a new creation, the old has gone the new has come"
But nowhere does Scripture say we have received a new mind. We have the same old mind, however, now that it has the light of God's truth shining on it, it has to be renewed.
Every Sin is screened first in our mind . As God's people we must seek to have our minds fixed on the things of God and not thing of this world Our thoughts must be in line with the word of God..
How can we have victory over our thought life ?
1) Dwell on the word of God
When you feed your mind with the word of God, you are actually renewing your mind
Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good, pleasing and perfect will.
The word of God not only will renew your mind but it will transform your life
Many believers want their lives to be transformed while they are still dwelling in the things of the world.
Don not conform to the pattern of this world system of the world
The word of God is light which will expel every darkness in our minds You don't fight darkness , you just turn on the lights
Dwelling on the Word of God will keep your mind clear, pure and full of light When the enemy brings evil thoughts , you will be on guard to combat him
2) Take captive every thought and make it obey Christ
2 Corinth 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
If you don't make your thoughts a prisoner then your thoughts will maker you a prisoner
Thoughts do not just run through our minds and never return, they keep coming back again until the room or foothold we give them becomes a stronghold
Evil thoughts want to be entertained, they are like the uninvited guest who does not want to leave and who wants to be continually fed and we must never give evil thoughts ROOM to RUN or to REST in our minds but we must seek to RESIST them ROOTING them out and RIDDING our minds of them.
We have to take captive every thought not some thoughts
3) Set your minds on things above
Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
Col 3:1-3 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Having our minds set on things above does not mean that you have your head in the clouds or that you are living on another planet. It means to have the mind of Christ.
And the way in which we can have the mind of Christ is by :
1. By keeping a guard on what you allow into your mind
2. By continuing to allow the Holy Spirit to have control of your mind
3. By filling your mind with the Word of God as it is your offensive weapon.
Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things.
Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
Whatever starts out as a simple thought may ultimately determine our destiny..
